FAQs

Is making cheese at home worth it?

  • Each batch of cheese will cost little more than the milk you use, and is a very rewarding hobby. Some mass-produced cheeses are cheaper from the supermarket then you can make at home, but as you move to making more advanced cheeses like Blue Cheese you will definitely be saving a lot of money.

How long does a cheese-making kit last?

  • Cheese kits with culture and rennet tablets which are stored in a freezer, will last several years. The Soft Cheese Kit with liquid rennet will last a year to 18 months past the date on the rennet.

Can you age your cheese in a fridge?

  • Cheeses such as Camembert, Cheddar, Colby, Farmhouse Jack, and your favourite Italian and Blue cheeses all require a cheese cave environment between 10 to 15 °C, so a fridge is not suitable. Soft fresh cheeses that you eat within days or a week or so, are stored in a fridge.
