Smooth Gel - Rice Flour - Thickener - 1 Kg

Smooth Gel Pregelatinised Rice Flour is an excellent thickener for non-dairy yoghurts.

Replaces fats to get a creamy smooth texture. Dissolves in hot or cold liquids and gels as it cools

This product being pregelatinised can be added to hot or cold foods and will still dissolve and form a thickening gel as it cools. This means you can add more Smooth Gel to your coconut yoghurt after they have been made.

Non Dairy Coconut Yoghurt

  • Use 10 to 20 grams in a litre batch of coconut yoghurt in place of other thickeners like pectin.
  • More can be added after fermentation, just whisk in vigorously.

I have previously used Tapioca Flour as a thickener for Coconut Yoghurt but it left a gritty texture on the tongue. This is so much better - no grit and quick dissolving so you can add it at any time during the yoghurt making process. I am still striving to get that perfect creamy coconut texture but this sure helps! Thanks to Valerie for the fantastic how-to videos.

I recently started using the "Smooth Gel" for making coconut yoghurt less runny and find it really great. I am using 2 cans of homebrand coconut cream and 2 tablespoons of "Smooth Gel" and that gives it the right consistency for us. I found that it even gets more solid, as days go by, different from the store bought coconut yoghurts. I put in: sugar to liking, the "Smooth Gel", some coconut milk powder (but might not do that next time as it is solid enough and hubby likes dessicated coconut in it) some vanilla essence, and yoghurt cultures from Green Living Australia (0,07g of that one). In the yoghurt maker for 24 hours. Than I stir it again and put it over night into the fridge. Perfect. If I didn't have to pay for the postage of the Smooth Gel I even would save money, doing it myself (Thus 4 and not 5 stars. But it does the job perfectly well)

I cannot fault either the gel or the company. The gel makes lovely, creamy and thick yoghurt. I used to use gelatine from the supermarket but I'll never go back to that again. As for the company - always willing to help with ANY questions you have. 10/10 for this company and product
